Baikal Lobridge took part in the retail conference held at the B1 office in Moscow, hosted by the American Chamber of Commerce in Russia together with the Eurasian Cooperation Center. Around 90 representatives of major retailers, manufacturers, consulting and analytical companies, as well as experts in logistics, customs, and insurance, attended the event.

The program included three main blocks: market trends, the role of supporting sectors (logistics, insurance, customs), and a central panel on retailers and manufacturers, focused on building effective partnerships in today’s changing economy.

Zhanna Logacheva, Project Lead, GR & Risk, moderated Session III: the panel “Retailers and Manufacturers,” which brought together representatives of leading retailers, manufacturers, and marketplaces.

Key discussion points included:

  • Drivers of Change: Economy, automation, import substitution, and SMEs shaping how companies collaborate.
  • Import Substitution and Localization: High levels of local production and supply chain localization were noted, though some categories remain dependent on imports. Media initiatives by the Russian Ministry of Agriculture play an important role in promoting domestic brands.
  • Fighting Counterfeits and Quality Control: Participants discussed tools such as the “Chestny ZNAK” labeling system and internal retailer control mechanisms. Collaboration with Rosakkreditatsiya, risk-based approaches, and manufacturer audits were highlighted. An Ozon representative shared proactive measures for the upcoming Platform Economy Law to protect consumers.
  • Regional Specifics: Declining purchasing power in regions affects procurement policies and assortment requirements. Companies shared experience in adapting products and formats to regional needs while keeping goods accessible.
  • Ways to Improve Collaboration: A final quick poll showed that businesses are open to dialogue with the government but seek a predictable regulatory environment and realistic KPIs for support measures.

The panel format proved effective, helping industry players find joint solutions and build long-term partnerships across the supply chain.

Baikal Lobridge thanks the American Chamber of Commerce in Russia and the Eurasian Cooperation Center for the invitation and the opportunity to moderate one of the key sessions.
